Marion County Prosecutor's Office hosts Second Chance Workshop

Lucas Oil Stadium hosted an event provided by the prosecutor's office for Hoosiers needing legal services.

INDIANAPOLIS — Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears held a Second Chance Workshop at Lucas Oil Stadium on June 20. The workshop was intended to assist attendees with various legal services to help those wishing to turn their lives around.

Some of the services offered included suspended driver's license assistance, child support services and help with criminal record expungement.

The prosecutor's office notes that Indianapolis has more than 100,000 suspended driver's licenses. A major hurdle to having one's license reinstated, the prosecutor's office said, are financial and legal burdens. The workshops are intended to connect individuals with organizations specializing in their needs.

“In a single day, our office was able to make a difference in of the lives of hundreds of residents. I am thankful to my staff and our community partners who worked diligently over the past several months to make this event possible,” Mears said. “Each person who walked out of our workshop is one step closer toward having a valid license, better financial standing and employment opportunities, and improving their livelihoods.”

According to the prosecutor's office, they intend to continue hosting Second Chance Workshops in the future. The office will provide both virtual and in-person events to help meet a wide range of people.

"Through the Second Chance Workshops, we are able to assist thousands of people each year — many of whom have been in need of these services for years," Mears said.

The prosecutor's office has set up a website detailing information regarding future workshops. Click here for more info.
