Marion County online payment fee waived through May property tax deadline

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The Marion County Treasurer’s Office announced Monday it will waive transaction fees for online eCheck property tax payments through Monday, May 11.

The waiver is part of an effort to protect taxpayers and employees by reducing the need for in-person transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic,

Property owners can go online to with bank account information to make a no-contact payment from home at no extra cost.

Treasurer Claudia O. Fuentes thanked those who have already paid their local property taxes because the funds help support essential local government programs, services, and first responders to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are so proud of the many ways that Hoosiers are helping out during the pandemic," Fuentes said as part of Monday's waiver announcement. "This includes paying property taxes. We want to make it as simple as possible to pay while keeping Hoosiers safe and complying with Governor Holcomb's stay-at-home order.”

Late penalties for non-escrowed parcels have also been waived on payments received after the May 11 due date for spring taxes, as long as taxes are paid by July 10, 2020. The grace period was set up for Marion County taxpayers who have been economically impacted by the pandemic.

Taxpayers needing further assistance can reach the Treasurer's Office staff at (317) 327.4444 or email at mytaxes@indy.gov, but not in person until social distancing guidelines are relaxed.

Payment Methods

Taxpayers can stay at home and still access multiple payment options, with additional information available at treasurer.indy.gov.

  • Online eCheck transactions are free from April 20 through May 11; credit and debit card transactions will still incur a 2.65 percent transaction fee.
  • Pay Online: pay one-time or create an online account to easily make future payments.
  • Pay Automatically: enroll in AutoPay and have payments automatically deducted from a default payment method on each due date.
  • Pay by Mail: mail check or money order to Marion County Treasurer, P.O. Box 6145, Indianapolis, IN 46206-6145 (include payment coupon, parcel number, or address of property on memo line).
  • Pay by Phone: pay via automated phone line by calling (888) 881-8986.
