INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is conducting an investigation after an inmate at the Marion County Adult Detention Center was found dead last week.
Around 8:15 a.m. Aug. 21, 27-year-old Bailey Scott Lyle was found unresponsive at the jail.
Medical staff at the jail provided aid until IEMS and IFD crews arrived. Lyle was pronounced dead shortly after 9 a.m.
The Marion County Coroner's Office completed the autopsy for Lyle, with the report indicating no signs of foul play, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
A toxicology report is pending to determine any additional factors contributing to Lyle's death.
Seven days after Lye's death at the jail, another inmate, 41-year-old Carlos Lagunes-Fraceschy, was found unresponsive in the infirmary and pronounced dead 25 minutes later.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office released the following statement on the two men's deaths:
"As is standard procedure to ensure transparency and accountability, Mr. Lyle’s and Mr. Lagunes-Fraceschy’s deaths are being independently investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Forensic Services Agency, the Marion County Coroner’s Office and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) ADC stands as Indiana’s largest mental health institution, dedicated to serving some of the state’s most vulnerable populations. The MCSO and its staff remain committed to delivering comprehensive, around-the-clock care to the county’s highest-risk individuals."
The sheriff's office said Lyle was serving a sentence following a probation violation in a felony case of unlawful possession of a syringe. He had been in sheriff's office custody three other times since 2019, an office spokesperson said.
