INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Marion County is implementing a 311 non-emergency number for cell phones.
Marion is the first county in the state to implement a 311 for cell phone users. Those with landlines should still call 317-327-3811.
Authorities believe this will be a more effective way to assistance citizens and saving lives.
Approximately 60 percent of calls made to Marion County are not emergencies, according to the sheriff's office.
The new line will "allow citizens the ease of directly contacting 911 without tying up an emergency dispatcher."
