INDIANAPOLIS — When it comes to forensic investigations in Marion County, there's new state-of-the-art equipment and a new facility to get the job done more efficiently.
13News got an inside look at the new home for the Forensic Services Agency and Marion County Coroner's Office on Thursday.
The project is 15 years in the making and the coroner's office said it couldn't come at a better time.
On average, the office conducts more than 4,000 death investigations each year, visiting thousands of scenes to dig into the forensics.
"Because we touch so many families in Marion County, it is important that we have all the equipment, we have all the space in order to do that efficiently, effectively, and collaboratively, with other agencies that we work with," said Marion County Chief Deputy Coroner Alfarena McGinty. "Such as law enforcement, the prosecutor's office, crime lab, so all of our agencies being able to come together, with all of the things we have in this facility, are just magnificent."
The coroner's office will move into the new $25 million facility on Friday, Sept. 6, with the goal to resume death investigations and autopsies by Monday.
