INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Some City-County Council leaders say the Marion County Coroner's Office needs more money to address the rise in death investigations.
The agency's budget was cut this year, but now there's a proposal to increase it by more than $300,000.
The coroner's office recently expressed concern over staffing shortfalls, supplies and pathology costs.
FOP President Rick Snyder says while the money is needed, it's evidence of violence surging in the community.
"This is another example of why our community needs to have some level of outrage to at least identify that there is a problem," Snyder said. "We need to talk about it and once we do that, then we can start talking about possible solutions."
Snyder says in less than three weeks, 42 people were shot, 13 people were murdered and six people were stabbed.
