Marion County constable says she has fired her whole staff

Center Township Constable Denise Hatch told 13News she has fired her entire staff.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Center Township constable tells 13News she has fired her entire staff.

Constable Denise Hatch told 13News she terminated 40 officers.

Two deputy constables currently face charges for being convicted felons and possessing handguns.

Hatch herself was recently charged with official misconduct, assisting a criminal, resisting arrest and theft. But she said the decision to terminate her staff is all about gaining the public's trust and starting with a clean slate.

"Everyone on my roster has been terminated. Once they can produce a nationwide background check, not just Indiana, they will be rehired," Hatch told 13News Friday evening.

When asked who is handling the deputy constables' duties now, Hatch said she has no idea.
