INDIANAPOLIS — A big announcement was made at Marian University on Sunday as its newest class of doctors receive their white coats.
Marian's College of Osteopathic Medicine received a $29 million gift from Julie Wood, the largest individual gift in the university's history.
As a result of the gift, Marian is now renaming its medical school. It will now be known as the Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The president of Marian University said the donation will make a big difference in medical education in Indiana.
"We're very excited about what that means in terms of resources and taking a wonderful medical school up to the next level," said Marian University President Daniel Elsener.
The university plans to use the funds to improve facilities, establish new scholarships and create new faculty positions.
