A Manchester University student was arrested for the death of her newborn son.
State police say 21-year-old Mikayla Munn of Elkhart was found in a bathtub in her dorm room with the boy March 8. The newly born child was not breathing and was taken with his mother to an area hospital.
The child was pronounced dead at the hospital. Munn was treated and released.
Detectives from the North Manchester Police Department and Indiana State Police began an investigation into the child's death after receiving inconsistent information. From that investigation, they determined they had enough probable cause to issue a warrant for Munn's arrest.
She was arrested Monday afternoon and taken to the Elkhart County Jail on charges of murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
