INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro Police say the deaths of two women found at a southeast side home Friday night are being investigated as a murder-suicide.
The two women were identified Saturday afternoon as 20-year-old Meredith Opel and 27-year-old Mallory Jackson. The Marion County Coroner's Office will release more information when autopsies have been completed.
Opel was a junior studying political science and sociology at University of Southern Indiana. Jackson was a licensed practical nurse for American Senior Communities at Rosewalk Village.
Police in Jonesboro, Arkansas confirm that Darrel Jackson, Mallory's husband, died there as a result of a suicide. Sgt. Cassie Brandon said Sunday the 29-year-old was found dead Friday inside a car with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
A police report says a handgun was recovered at the scene.
Back here at home, IMPD Sgt. Chris Wilburn said Darrel was wanted for questioning in Mallory and Meredith's deaths.
Investigators spent Friday evening processing the crime scene on Stone Mill Dr. in a neighborhood just off Interstate 65 and Southport Rd.
Police got a call just before 5:30 p.m. Friday. Someone had discovered something very wrong in the house.
"It was apparent to the officers the victims had some trauma to their bodies and at that point it was determined to call homicide," said Wilburn.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News that a young couple had lived in the house for about a year and a half, describing them as quiet. A female from the house was often seen jogging in the neighborhood.
Some neighbors said the couple "had a loud domestic argument in front of the house” about a month ago and that the man had not been seen at the house since.
Both women attended Roncalli High School.
Friends, family and the community are invited to a visitation for the women December 1 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial December 2 at 10 a.m. Both services will be held at Roncalli High School.
A friend started a GoFundMe page in Meredith and Mallory's honor to help raise money for their family in the time of need.
