Man rescued by neighbor from south Indy mobile home fire

IFD said medics took the 62-year-old man to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 62-year-old Indianapolis man was rescued by a neighbor after a fire destroyed his home Sunday morning.

According to a social media post by the Indianapolis Fire Department, around 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 11, IFD firefighters responded to the 4700 block of Madison Avenue, near Interstate 465 and Shelby Street, on a report of a residence fire. 

First responders arrived and found the mobile home engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in 15 minutes. Both IMPD and IFD said the fire was ruled an accident, but did not specify the exact cause. 

The owner of the home, identified as a 62-year-old Indianapolis man, was reportedly rescued by a neighbor. IFD said medics took the man to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition. The neighbor who rescued him was checked on scene and released. 

IFD said the home did not have working smoke alarms.
