Man recounts Justin Wagers' past violence toward women

Tony Evans said he had to rescue his wife's best friend from Justin Wagers, the man at the center of the latest investigation into the disappearance of Lauren Spierer.

Bloomington Police will not say what prompted a search of a Martinsville home last Thursday, or the possible connection between Justin Wagers, a convicted sex offender, and the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.

But a man who had run-ins with Wagers spoke with Eyewitness News.

Those run-ins began in 2011, months after Spierer went missing. Bloomington Police arrested Wagers for intimidation and invasion of privacy of a former girlfriend. Tony Evans said he had to rescue his wife's best friend from Wagers.

Court records show the woman got a restraining order against Wagers in August 2011, after he allegedly threatened to kill her. Evans says he's not surprised that police are looking into Wagers.

"He wouldn't stop coming around and threatening her and I had to come over one time and chase him off, but he'd left before I got there," Evans said, recounting one of several incidents.

Evans says the only reason Wagers stopped bothering the woman was because he got arrested on public indecency charges in Johnson County and was forced to serve jail time.
