59-year-old man killed in workplace accident at Waste Management in Whitestown

Medics pronounced Johnny Williams, an Indianapolis resident, dead at the scene shortly after their arrival.

WHITESTOWN, Ind. — A worker at the Whitestown Waste Management facility has died following a workplace accident Tuesday afternoon. 

According to the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, around 2 p.m. on June 18, first responders were called to the Waste Management facility at 6251 South Indianapolis Road, near Whitestown Parkway, on a report of a pedestrian struck with traumatic injuries. 

First responders were told the incident was a workplace accident in which a worker was struck by a work vehicle. Medics arrived and pronounced 59-year-old Johnny Williams, of Indianapolis, dead at the scene. 

Waste Management shared the following statement with 13News: 

"Safety is paramount to WM.

The incident that took place yesterday is currently under investigation, and any related information will be released by the Whitestown Police Department.

The WM team extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased."

This is the second workplace fatality at the facility in the last six months. In December, a contract worker was killed when he was crushed by a large stone.
