INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a 28-year-old man for his alleged role in a deadly crash on Indianapolis' southwest side early Monday.
The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. Jan. 15 at the intersection of Exploration Drive and Ameriplex Parkway, a few blocks south of the Indianapolis International Airport.
Court documents say Kyle Everhart, of Indianapolis, told police he was driving to White Castle in Plainfield. He allegedly told police he last smoked marijuana at 9 p.m. that night and drank five beers while watching a football game.
According to court documents, Everhart told police he was driving south on Ameriplex Parkway and tried to brake for the yellow light at Exploration Drive when the car slid and crashed into another car.
The driver of the second car, identified Jan. 16 by the Marion County Coroner's Office as 44-year-old Quanaee Allen Daniels, was ejected in the crash and taken in critical condition to a local hospital, where he died.
According to court documents, police found Daniels had a green light when Everhart's Range Rover went through a red light and hit Daniels' Charger. Everhart was found to be traveling at least 62 mph, according to a police investigation.
Court documents say an IMPD officer spoke to Everhart at Eskenazi Hospital, and the officer said the driver had a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, glassy and bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils and eyelid tremors."
According to court documents, Everhart took a preliminary breath test, which showed a .092, with the legal limit in Indiana being .08. He then consented to a blood draw, which allegedly showed a BAC of .123, which is one-and-a-half time the legal limit.
Police arrested Everhart for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death. He is charged with several counts of operating while intoxicated causing death.
