EDINBURGH, Ind — One man was injured, six people were displaced and more than a half-dozen pets were killed in an overnight fire in Edinburgh.
Just after midnight Wednesday, May 29, first responders were called to a home in the 500 block of Sunset Drive, near South Eisenhower Drive, for a report of a garage fire. Responding officers found the fire had already spread to a large portion of the home, Edinburgh Police Department Chief Doyne Little said in a statement.
Officers helped the occupants of the home move farther away from the fire. A 48-year-old male resident was treated for leg burns and taken to a local hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries, Little said.
Approximately six cats and two dogs died in the fire. Six occupants and several other animals were displaced due to "extensive fire damage," Little said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
