20-year-old man injured after falling out of truck doing donuts on Ivy Tech Bloomington campus

Deputies arrested an 18-year-old male on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A 20-year-old man was injured after he was ejected from a car that was doing donuts on the Ivy Tech campus in Bloomington Saturday night.

Around 9:30 p.m. Dec. 9, Monroe County sheriff's deputies received a report that a 20-year-old man fell from the bed of a pickup truck and was injured.

Monroe County Central Emergency Dispatch reported they originally received a phone call to the address of 200 N. Daniels Way at Ivy Tech Community College regarding large trucks making donuts and creating a lot of noise. They also received information that someone had fallen out of a truck.

Deputies responded, locating both the 18-year-old male driver of the pickup truck and the injured man.

A preliminary investigation leads officers to believe the 18-year-old was doing donuts in the parking lot when the 20-year-old climbed into the bed of the pickup truck.

Investigators determined that even though the pickup truck was in motion and there was no crash, the centripetal force of the donuts caused the 20-year-old to be thrown out of the back of the pickup truck.

The sheriff's office said the 20-year-old fell onto the asphalt, injuring his face, and lost consciousness.

Witnesses on the scene were preparing to start CPR before he regained consciousness.

The driver was taken to the Monroe County Jail on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness.
