Lucas Oil Stadium's sensory room includes adjustable lighting, calming visuals

The room is a comfortable place for individuals who want to participate in events, but may need a break due to sensory issues.

INDIANAPOLIS — Lucas Oil Stadium's sensory room is officially open.

It's a comfortable place for individuals who want to participate in events, but may need a break due to sensory issues.

The sensory room helps those with autism, dementia, PTSD and other similar conditions.

Some of the tools used to provide a personalized experience include adjustable lighting, calming visuals and comfortable seating.

"So that they can interact with that person in a proper way and that we're able to help get them the resources they need to have a great time here at Lucas Oil Stadium," said stadium director Eric Neuburger.

In addition to the room's physical elements, Lucas Oil Stadium partnered with a nonprofit called Kulture City to recognize guests and fans with sensory needs and help with a sensory overload situation.

Kulture City previously certified Lucas Oil Stadium as a sensory-inclusive venue. The stadium has been equipped with sensory bags that will help those who struggle with sensory regulation.

The bags include noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads. The kits are expected to help visitors who are sensitive to overstimulation and noise.

Medical professionals have also trained the stadium's staff to better assist visitors with sensory needs, teaching them how to help handle overstimulation.

The sensory bags are available at Guest Services behind Section 121.
