For baseball's Opening Day, Louisville Slugger has a new bat with a new logo.
The 129-year-old baseball bat maker is hoping the new, harder bat combined with a more modern Louisville Slugger logo will let the family-owned company stay relevant in the sporting good supply market and ahead of their competitors in luring younger ballplayers to its products.
The new logo is the first such change since the company dropped the "Hillerich & Bradsby" name from the center of its oval design and replaced it with "Louisville Slugger" in 1980. The new bats are made from a high-grade wood and are the biggest change to the bats in 41 years.
The new bats are designed to be harder than previous models, which officials say should result in fewer splintered bats for infielders to contend with.
