INDIANAPOLIS — A music legend in the Indianapolis community has died.
According to a social media post by the Slippery Noodle Inn, Gene Deer, a regular performer at the bar, died Friday, Jan. 5. He was 59.
Deer wrote and performed numerous songs during his career, releasing two albums — 1994's "Soul Tender" and 1997's "Livin with the Blues" — and enjoyed a stint playing in former Indy 500 winner Kenny Bräck's band, Kenny Bräck and the Subwoofers.
In the social media post announcing his death, the Slippery Noodle Inn wrote, "His great smile and energy made everyone he touched a better person. He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
According to Shelby County Coroner Bradley Rund, Deer was found dead at his home in Fairland. The cause and manner of death are currently under investigation.
