Local family searching for mother's missing remains

A local family is desperate for answers as they search for their mother's missing remains.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – A local family is desperate for answers as they search for their mother's missing remains.

Starrita Catron said her mother, Vanessa Walker, 60, of Indianapolis, died in January.

After the funeral, Catron said her mother's cremated remains were supposed to be sent through priority mail to Atlanta where several other sisters lived and planned to divide the remains into several urns.

But Catron said the remains never arrived.

"It's coming up on a year and still nothing. And that's not fair and it's not right," Catron said.

She said the funeral home delivered the package to a local post office and provided a picture of the package label.

Catron and her family have been working with the United States Postal Service to find out what happened from there.

Family members say the package was last tracked to a postal facility in Indianapolis and that they have been in communication with the postal service, both in Indianapolis and Atlanta.

"I just want justice for my mom and closure for me and my sisters," Catron said.

"That's our mother,” one of Starrita's sisters Freddie said. “That's the only thing we have left we have to remember her by."

Friday afternoon, a USPS spokesperson told Eyewitness News they were looking into it.
