Lightning strike hits Greenwood home, sets it on fire

Firefighters responded to the fire around 5 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Alton Drive, near U.S. 31 and Smith Valley Road.

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Lightning is suspected as the cause of a fire that gutted a Greenwood home Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 5 p.m. Aug. 29 in the 500 block of Alton Drive, near U.S. 31 and Smith Valley Road. It is believed that a lightning strike sparked the fire, which took firefighters nearly two hours to put out.

The investigation into the fire is underway. It is not known if anyone was injured in the fire at this time.

Firefighters from the White River Township Fire Department assisted Greenwood firefighters at the scene.
