Indianapolis - A spokesman for the Marion County-Indianapolis Public Library system confirms that CEO Laura Bramble is stepping down.
Bramble told staff Thursday that she plans to leave her post by the middle of next year. Bramble has been with the library for 18 years, the last three as CEO. She recently oversaw efforts to slash the budget by cutting library hours and eliminating 37 positions.
The cuts were in response to a projected shortfall of $4 million caused by declining property tax revenue.
Some library employees were critical of the way the layoffs were handled. While Bramble told employees, she planned to remain with the library in some other capacity, she could not be reached for comment.
Bramble has been on a yearly contract since November of 2007, when the board appointed to fill the vacancy left by former CEO, Linda Mielke. Her salary at that time was $115,000 a year.
