INDIANAPOLIS — The Indy Pride Festival and Parade are set for Saturday, June 8.
The parade runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and the festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
"There's a lot of hate that comes toward us from friends, family members, everywhere. I think we deserve to have some joy, right? We are around 365 days a year. not just in June, not just on this Saturday that's happening. to be able to bring that visibility to our community so that people can see the amazing individuals that are a part of it it's just a great addition to what we're doing," said Jose Castillo-Jimenez, Pride Fest Board of Directors VP.
If you plan to attend either or both, here's what you need to know.
Indy Pride Parade
The Pride Parade will take place on June 8 from 10 a.m. to noon along Mass Ave.
Hundreds of people participate in the parade each year, with thousands lining the streets in what the organization says is the state's largest parade for any cause.
WTHR will have a team walking in the parade, too!
Free water stations will be set up along the route, and bathrooms will be located at multiple points.
Indy Pride Festival
The festival will take place at Military Park, which is at 601 W. New York St. in Indianapolis.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the event. Children 5 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
Parking
Indy Pride is partnering with Gate Ten Events and Parking for access near the parade and festival. People who buy a parking pass can then get a shuttle to the parade, from the parade to the festival and from the festival back to their car.
There is also parking along streets and parking garages where available.
Clear bag policy
The Indy Pride Festival, Indy Pride has implemented a clear bag policy.
All bags coming in must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and must not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or 30.5 x 15.25 x 30.5 cm.
Exceptions are medically necessary items and/or diaper bags. Those will need to be inspected.
"Honestly, the biggest thing is bags, bag sizes. We implemented a clear bag policy last year, which almost every festival is doing. It's not just us. So, I would say go to our Instagram and see the size dimensions for each bag because there is a small bag that you can bring in but after a certain size, it does have to be clear for you to come into the festival," said Castillo-Jimenez.
