LEBANON, Ind. (WTHR) – A suspect in a shooting in Lebanon was arrested late Tuesday afternoon in Alabama.

Lebanon police say Mark W. Wilburn, 53, Noblesville, was taken into custody at a Fultondale, Alabama hotel at about 5:30 p.m.

Michael L. Maxwell, 29, was hospitalized Monday with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Dispatchers had sent officers to a home in the 800 block of Cohen Street around 7 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they learned that Maxwell had already been taken to Witham Health Services in Lebanon. He was later transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police say Maxwell is currently stable at the hospital.

Police believe it began as a verbal altercation between Maxwell and Wilburn. Police say Wilburn is Maxwell's father-in-law.

A warrant was issued Tuesday charging Wilburn with battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 Felony. Police said Wilburn was being held in a jail in Alabama pending an extradition process.
