LEBANON, Ind. (WTHR) - Lebanon Police Officer Terry L. Nelson, Jr. was found dead in his home early Monday morning, according to a release from the police department.
No foul play is suspected.
Nelson, 42, was a lifelong resident of Lebanon and an 18-year veteran of the Lebanon Police Department.
Carmel Police and the Boone County Coroner’s Office will conduct a death investigation. LPD's policy calls for an outside agency to conduct the investigation.
Nelson's career was noted for his actions during a fire that broke out on July 3, 2011 in a local apartment complex. He was awarded the Medal of Valor by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, and was named Boone County's Fraternal Order of Police Officer of the Year. He also received the Elk’s Citizen Award.
Officer Nelson also served in crime scene investigations and a Taser Instructor during his time with Lebanon Police.
Arrangements are pending.
