Barber retires after 5 decades of cutting hair in Lebanon

Ed Strawmyer has cut generations of families' hair over the last 50 years.

LEBANON, Ind. — A longtime barber in Lebanon is hanging up his clippers for good.

Ed Strawmyer has been cutting hair for 54 years. He spent 50 of those years cutting hair at Modern Barber Shop located at 202 S. Lebanon St.

"I just thought, 'I'm going to give it a shot.' It's just been perfect for me, because I'm a people person," Strawmyer said.

Strawmyer has cut generations of families' hair over the last five decades. He said he had no intentions of retiring, but the building sold, forcing the shop to relocate.

"I just decided that it was time to go," Strawmyer said.

The barbershop will move to 1641 N. Lebanon St. at the end of the year.

Strawmyer said he will miss having his customers in the chair, but looks forward to seeing them around town.

"The best part is, my customers are my friends. That's the hardest part," Strawmyer said.

"People would ask me, 'Where do you get your hair cut?' And I would say, 'You gotta go see Ed Strawmyer," said customer Ed Bergin.

His last day at the shop will be Dec. 23. He said he plans to do some traveling in retirement.
