A Lawrence Township charter school has announced it will be closing its doors.
Administrators at the Stonegate Early College High School says its low enrollment cannot sustain operations, and it will close by the end of the calendar year. Current students will be relocated to other schools.
Stonegate focused on allowing first-generation college students to complete a Core 40 or Academic Honors diploma as well as earn an Associate's Degree while in high school. It was a charter school sponsored by the mayor.
The Stonegate graduating class of 2011 was awarded nearly $15,000 in scholarships and earned 384 college credits before graduating high school.
