LAWRENCE, Indiana — The Lawrence Police Department is mourning the sudden loss of one of its K-9s.
Justice, who joined the department in August 2020, passed away unexpectedly while off duty Sunday morning, July 7, the department said in a social media post.
"K-9 Justice suffered a medical emergency known as Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus (GDV), also commonly known as Bloat," the department said. "Despite the best efforts of the VCA Beech Grove Animal Hospital staff and his handler, Sergeant Bishop, K-9 Justice did not survive."
Justice had served with Bishop since January 2022.
"Please keep Sergeant Bishop, his family, and the extended Lawrence Police family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tremendous loss," the department said.
