LAWRENCE, Ind. (WTHR) - The city of Lawrence broke ground Wednesday morning on a new police station.
The 37,000 square foot facility will go up on North Post Road near Pendleton Pike.
The station will have an open concept and feature a fitness center and community room for the public.
The city's police chief says he wants everyone in the community to know they are welcome.
"This building is going to be the city's building, your building, and we want people to feel comfortable visiting us and using the facility or just simply doing business with the police department," said Chief David Hoffman
The project is being funded through a bond.
The new police station should be completed in about a year.
