Marina on Lake Monroe still cleaning up after storm

Last Tuesday night, a storm rolled through Bloomington, leaving debris on land and in the water.

INDIANAPOLIS — As boaters enjoyed a quiet day on Lake Monroe Monday, they floated by storm damage and clean up crews.

Last Tuesday night, a storm rolled through Bloomington, leaving debris on land and in the water.

"There were like 20 trees and wires down. When we got here, we saw what happened," Tom Greemann said.

Greemann is the owner of Two Herons Marina, where he said his employees were inside when the storm hit.

"They are fine, I thought they would quit after that, because it was bouncing and there were lights swinging," he said.

Greemann said this is the busiest week of the year for them and they already canceled over 100 boat rentals.

Boaters cannot even get to the marina because the storm caused the bridge to disconnect from the dock.

Storms damaged a bridge connecting the Two Herons Marina from the parking lot last week.

Greemann said local crews have helped them clean up and even pull a boat from underwater. While they aren't sure if the marina will open this week, other parts of the lake will.

Officials with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources tell 13News the beach opens on Monday and the campground opens Tuesday.

"They are all cleaned up. There were 6 or 7 power poles down, they are all fixed, they are doing a good job," he said.

Greemann said he's glad there are so many out here trying to get the lake ready for the holiday.

"Having a boat is a dream and going out on a boat on the Fourth of July is a dream and we are really sorry," he said.

City officials just announced they are partnering with Williams Tree Company of Martinsville to help with all of the tree debris removal.
