Lafayette Road movie theater with 14 screens, food and full bar set for 2024 opening

Alamo Drafthouse plans to open in the former Georgetown Cinema in 2024.

INDIANAPOLIS — Alamo Drafthouse Cinema plans to open its first Indiana location next year.

The movie theater will occupy the site of the former Georgetown Cinema at 3898 Lafayette Road, across from Lafayette Square, the company said in a press release.

Alamo Drafthouse will feature 14 screens, food and a standalone bar.

The expansion is owed, at least in part, to the company founder's appreciation for Indianapolis.

“We visit Indianapolis almost every year for Gen Con, the truly epic annual tabletop gaming gathering,” said Tim League, founder of Alamo Drafthouse. “We’ve grown to really love this city over the years and are so excited to get to know and support the local film community in the years ahead.”

The company was founded in 1997 as a single-screen repertory theater in Austin, Texas. They have grown to 39 locations across the country.

The new theater is expected to open in the spring of 2024.
