LAFAYETTE, Ind — A Lafayette man just won big in the lottery!

Scott Marsell won the $342,362 CA$H 5 jackpot for the Saturday, Aug. 10 drawing, according to lottery officials.

Marshall bought the winning ticket at Meijer Express #285, located at 5520 E. New Margaret Drive in Terre Haute.

Lottery officials said Marsell and his wife had just dropped their son off at college, and on their way home, they stopped for gas in Terre Haute. There, Marsell bought a CA$H 5 ticket and put it in his truck.

Marsell said he ended up forgetting about it and noticed it in his truck a few days later.

He scanned the tickets on the Hoosier Lottery app, and that's when he realized he won the jackpot!

Lottery officials said Marsell quickly turned around and headed straight back home to share the news with his wife.

“We had a holy crap moment for about 15 minutes,” Marsell said.

He then told both of his children, who are in college.

“I told my daughter she doesn’t need to worry about rent anymore, and she got a little teary-eyed,” Marsell said.

Marsell told lottery officials he plans to help his children with their college expenses and invest the remaining money.
