Lafayette fire now being investigated as a homicide

Lafayette police say a weekend fire is now being investigated as a homicide and an arson.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) - Lafayette police say a weekend fire is now being investigated as a homicide and an arson.

Sunday morning, the Lafayette Police Department received a 911 call of a man that had been stabbed at 818 S 31st St.

While on the phone with 911 operators, the caller stated that the house was on fire.

The Lafayette Fire Department located another victim inside the residence that was deceased.

Police say the stabbing victim, Thomas Day, was transported to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition.

Police say Day and the deceased victim were both living at the residence.

The Tippecanoe County Coroner says the deceased victim was found with gunshot wounds.

The cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office after an autopsy.
