California-based LA Fitness is buying 171 Bally Total Fitness locations. That includes the only Indianapolis location, at 5435 Pike Plaza Road, on the city's west side.
The deal is the latest drastic change in the central Indiana health club industry.
Last week, Lifestyle Family Fitness said it was selling two Indianapolis clubs Life Time Fitness and was shutting two others. Days earlier, Cardinal Fitness abruptly closed six of its 12 area locations.
LA Fitness already operates eight health clubs in the area.
