Kountry Kitchen gives free food to 2,000 families on Christmas Day

The restaurant has held the giveaway annually for more than a decade.

INDIANAPOLIS — A local restaurant is giving back to people in need.

Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place gave out free meals on Christmas Day to people in need.

There were more than 50 volunteers who helped make this happen.

"It became a family tradition, an opportunity for our family to give back to the community," said Andrea Neely, who has been a volunteer for 14 years.

Kountry Kitchen has done the food giveaway for more than a decade.

"It's right in the inner city, and people need this. They need to see people of our color volunteering during a cheerful season," said William Helm, who also volunteers.

The COVID-19 pandemic and a fire that destroyed the original building in 2020 put a pause to the food giveaway.

However, the support of the community helped make it happen again.

“As much as it is about the people in need —we love them and want to serve them — it is also about the people who took time away from their families to say this is a priority for me," said Regina Marsh, of Kountry Kitchen.

People could walk in or call to have the food delivered. Approximately 2,000 families were served on Christmas Day.

It is all volunteer- and donation-driven.
