An IMPD officer is being recognized for his years of work helping kids.
Sgt. Kendale Adams was surprised Tuesday morning by the children attending the 100 Black Men Summer Academy when the kids showed their appreciation with a song.
"It's my responsibility...to be the best that I can be!" the kids sang.
Sgt. Adams is a member of the 100 Black Men organization and works with the Summer Academy program to provide kids with educational and fun activities while school's out.
"Too often we don't highlight the good things that police officers are doing here in our community and nationwide and we thought we'd take the time today to really highlight Officer Adams," said the event's organizer.
Sgt. Adams has been an IMPD officer for over 15 years and also provides one-on-one mentoring for kids in the community.
"Right now, our nation is in mourning over the tragic incidents in Louisiana, Texas and Minnesota. It is important that as we acknowledge tragedy and seek to make some much needed societal changes that we also celebrate and honor those who are going above and beyond the call of duty," the organizers wrote in a statement.
