Jury convicts bounty hunter in deaths of two teens

Kevin Watkins was accused of killing two teenagers, one of whom he suspected had burglarized his property.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Kevin Watkins was convicted Friday on two counts of murder.

Watkins was accused of killing 15-year-old Timmee Jackson and his best friend, 16-year-old Satori Dion Williams on Christmas Eve, 2015.

Deputy Prosecutor Mark Hollingsworth described the murders as "gruesome." He told the court the bounty hunter was angry about being burglarized reportedly by one of the victims. He supposedly had a television and weapons stolen from his home.

During opening arguments, Watkins' attorney Jeffrey Scott Neel told the jury his client used a tomahawk hatchet to kill the two teen boys in self-defense after they pointed guns at him outside his home. Neel went on to explain to the court that ‘out of confusion’ his client then hid their bodies.

The homicides came to light when the 15-year-old's mother went to Watkins home on East 23rd Street looking for her son. She became suspicious about what she saw at the house and secretly collected a bloody leaf. She put the leaf in a plastic bag.

Metro police officer Paul Humphrey responded to her missing person report. But on the witness stand he shared with the court that he went to Watkins home because of the leaf. Humphrey is a longtime officer with more than 20 years on the force and prior experience as a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy.

In court he testified he "…called for a supervisor and back-up after finding a huge amount of blood Watkins couldn't explain."

During their time on the witness stand, both parents testified about giving police their sons' toothbrushes so investigators could match up DNA with the blood found at Hawkins home.

Watkins will be sentenced on March 23.
