The $25 million Julia M. Carson Transit Center opened Monday morning for its first full weekday in operation.
The new bus hub is expected to be a hub of activity.
It officially opened Sunday and riders had the opportunity to checkout the new facility, which includes a large indoor waiting area, canopies to protect passengers from the elements and other amenities.
"The building is really great," said IndyGo rider Aunyae Ingram. "It's wifi accessible, there are restrooms back there for us. It's air conditioned. It's actually very nice. I'm surprised what the city had done. I love it actually."
"I like it because it's a lot better for all of us to fit as a group," one IndyGo rider said. "
Security is a priority at the new transit center.
In addition to more than 60 surveillance cameras, there are also armed security officers.
The downtown bus routes have changed.
All IndyGo bus rides are free this week as rider acclimate to the changes.
