JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — The Johnson County Indiana Sheriff's Office is warning the community of the latest jury duty scam

There are scammers trying to "defraud" people by falsely claiming that they have missed jury duty and that there's now a warrant out for their arrest.

Authorities said the scammers are impersonating law enforcement officials, including using the names of actual sheriff's deputies, in an effort to "scare individuals into paying fines or providing personal information."

"Please be aware that the Johnson County Sheriff's Office will never contact individuals by phone to demand payment or threaten arrest for failure to report to jury duty," the Johnson County Indiana Sheriff's Office said. "Any legitimate communication regarding jury duty will come through official court channels."

If you receive a call or communication like this, police urge you to:

1. Do not provide any personal information or payment.

2. Hang up immediately.

3. Contact the Johnson County Sheriff's Office to verify the legitimacy of the call.

4. Report the incident to the sheriff's office if you believe you have been targeted by this scam.

"We take these types of scams very seriously and are actively working to protect the community," the Johnson County Sheriff's Office said. "Stay safe and vigilant."

If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact their office at 317-736-9155.
