TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - This year's annual muscular dystrophy telethon will be Jerry Lewis' last.

Lewis is retiring from hosting the telethon after 45 years. His final appearance will be September fourth.

He'll end the show with his signature song, "You'll Never Walk Alone."

The telethon is being severely streamlined this year. It'll last six hours instead of the usual 21 and a-half hours.

Lewis says he'll continue to be the MDA's national chairman and will never desert his "kids."
