Indiana's superintendent of public instruction has a new opponent as she runs for re-election.
Yorktown school superintendent Jennifer McCormick says she is running for the Republican nomination to take on Glenda Ritz in the fall. McCormick talked about the troubles she sees in Indiana education right now, including ISTEP.
"Communication is an issue, local districts are impacted when there is either broken or lack of communication. A lot of the resources that used to be available are very scarce or they're not timely. Anytime you have curriculum, instruction and assessment that that is not aligned, I'm not sure what other results we should expect on ISTEP other than what we're getting," said McCormick.
McCormick says she will travel through the state over the next few days to introduce herself to voters and teachers.
Ritz has clashed with the Board of Education, along with Gov. Mike Pence, over power struggles and ISTEP.
