The slaying of a 94-year-old former central Indiana county commissioner and county councilman remains unsolved more than six months after a business acquaintance found his body inside his rural home, leaving other residents of his community questioning who would commit such a crime and if they have a killer living in their midst.

The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports Samuel Kessler touched many lives in Montgomery County, and his death has left a lingering feeling of uncertainty among people in the Montgomery County town of Ladoga about 35 miles west of Indianapolis.

Someone shot and killed Kessler Jan. 28 and ransacked his house on Indiana 234 a few miles east of Ladoga. Indiana State Police say they continue to investigate leads but little else about the case.
