The Salvation Army, Jack's Donuts giving away thousands of free donuts during 'Donuts with a Purpose' on Monument Circle

The event begins Friday, June 7 at 9 a.m. on Monument Circle. Thousands of free donuts will be distributed, while supplies last.

INDIANAPOLIS — In celebration of "National Donut Day," Jack's Donuts and The Salvation Army of Central Indiana are giving away free donuts on Monument Circle, while supplies last.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 7, "Donuts with a Purpose" will distribute thousands of free glazed donuts to the community to honor not just National Donut Day, but also the memory of World War I veterans.

The event also serves as a history lesson and a tribute to Salvation Army volunteers, dubbed "Donut Lassies," who delivered fresh donuts to WWI soldiers on the frontlines to help remind them of home and better handle the challenges of war.

“Donuts with a Purpose is not just about enjoying the great taste of a Jack’s Donut; it’s about honoring our history and recognizing the sacrifices of our veterans," said Maj. Rachel Stouder, area commander for The Salvation Army of Central Indiana.

The Salvation Army said it it will deliver donuts to military members and first responders in the community in the days leading up to June 7 as a gesture of gratitude for their service.

Additionally, 12 Jack's Donuts locations across the Indianapolis area will host a Salvation Army Red Kettle at their stores.
