Researchers at Indiana University have released a study about the toll trampolines are taking on children.

The research showed more than 288,000 people, most of them children, suffered broken bones on trampolines between 2002 and 2011. There was a total of one million injuries caused by trampolines that cost $1 billion in emergency room visits.

While the average age of those injured is nine years old, the more serious injuries were suffered by children around 16 years old, because they jump higher.

Doctors say parents need to strictly enforce rules, such as limiting the number of people jumping at one time and not allowing anyone underneath the trampoline. One Fishers family posts their rules right on the trampoline and also bought protective netting.
