INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police is investigating after a person was struck by a car and killed along Interstate 465 on Indianapolis' northeast side Monday morning.

The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. Nov. 20 near the off-ramp from I-465 westbound to Allisonville Road.

ISP Sgt. John Perrine told 13News that prior to the crash, a semi truck lost a wheel in the road and pulled over. A car then hit the wheel, which got caught underneath it. That car then struck a person, who was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, state police said.

The Marion County Coroner's Office will identify the person killed once family has been notified.

The ramp from I-465 westbound to Allisonville Road was closed for several hours Monday morning, and traffic on I-465 backed up for several miles.

The ramp had reopened by 9 a.m. Monday.
