PERU, Ind. — A Logansport man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Peru Friday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Nov. 8, Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle in Peru.

ISP said a preliminary investigation reveals a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, driven by a woman from Peru, Indiana, was heading westbound on U.S. 24 approaching County Road 550 East.

Police said her vehicle hit a pedestrian, who was later identified as 66-year-old Jeffrey Moss.

Officers said Moss was crossing from the south to the north side of U.S. 24. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Miami County Coroner's Office.

"It was dark out at the time of the crash, and alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash," ISP said in a news release. "However, toxicology results are pending at this time."

The investigation remains ongoing.

Indiana State Police was helped by the Peru Post, Miami County Sheriff's Office, Roann Fire Department, Duke's EMS and Miami County Coroner's Office.
