ISP investigating death of Grant County Jail inmate

Detention deputies were alerted by inmates of a medical emergency Monday night, the sheriff's office said.

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police and the Grant County Coroner's Office are investigating the death of an inmate at the county jail Monday.

Russell D. Stalling, 46, of Marion, was later identified as the person found dead.

Around 10:15 p.m. on June 15, deputies at the Grant County Jail were alerted by inmates of a medical emergency in the cell block. 

Deputies provided medical aid, and Stalling was moved to the medical room before being transported to Marion Health Hospital, where he were pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.

Stalling had been in the Grant County Jail since April 7.

Indiana State Police and the Grant County Coroner's Office were requested by the sheriff's office to investigate the death.
