ISP: Driver was going 110 mph in Hancock County highway construction zone

A state trooper arrested the man on Tuesday, a spokesperson said.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A motorist in Hancock County was arrested Tuesday after a state trooper clocked him driving at twice the posted speed limit.

Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said Trooper Nick Cox stopped the car that he says was going 110 miles per hour in a construction zone where the speed limit is 55.

In addition to allegations of reckless driving, the man faces citations for other traffic violations, Perrine said in a social media post.

Indiana's Work Zone Safety Law created steep penalties for traffic violations that occur around construction projects. It calls for a $300 fine for the first violation, which increases to $1,000 for a third violation within three years. People convicted of driving recklessly in a work zone could be sentenced to six years in prison and be fined $10,000, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
