COLUMBUS, Ind. — A new manufacturing facility is coming to the northern Columbus area.
Irresistible Foods Group, the parent company of sweet roll brand King's Hawaiian, announced on Dec. 28 that it plans to open the company's first Midwest production site in Bartholomew County.
The location is slated to be off Interstate 65, north of Columbus, near Taylorsville. The company selected an 88-acre site located at the southeast corner of I-65's Exit 76, near the Edinburgh Outlet Mall.
King's Hawaiian says they intend to invest up to $180 million to construct and equip the planned 300,000+ square foot bakery and production facility. The new facility is expected to bring around 150 new jobs to Bartholomew County.
The company says employees' average wage will be $29.94 an hour.
“We are very pleased to extend a warm welcome to King’s Hawaiian and celebrate their decision to establish roots in Indiana,” said Ann Lathrop, chief strategy officer for Indiana Economic Development Corporation. “The company’s new facility will not only create high-quality jobs and competitive wages but also bring prosperity and robust growth into the community, benefitting Hoosiers for decades to come.”
The company says they plan to break ground on the facility in 2024, with plans for an official opening slated for late 2026 or early 2027.
