IPS kids get free books, skills lessons from Indianapolis Colts

More than 400 students got to pick two books and had a photo opportunity and autograph session.

INDIANAPOLIS — What do you get when you put together a book fair and football?

On Tuesday, you would get the Indianapolis Colts at an IPS elementary school!

The Colts held a book fair and football camp at Clarence Farrington School 61 on the northwest side of Indianapolis, connecting more than 400 kids with new books.

Students got to shop for two free books, then enjoyed some reading time and a photo op and autographs with Colts cheerleaders.

"Reading is so important to kiddos and getting books that are their own, right, that they get to take home and continue to read after they leave school, but we know that reading is kind of the foundation for everything, not just in school but in life," said Ande Sadtler, Colts director of community impact.

Participants also got to do some noncontact drills Tuesday's event, which was aimed at fundamental skills and increasing knowledge of terminology and technique.
